Pasifika Learning Centre is an initiative led and organised by our Pasifika Young Leadership group in local schools. This was an opportunity for our Pasifika Leaders to unite and look at ways to serve our community. The samoan quote|proverb “O le ala i le pule o le tautua” means the pathway to leadership is through service. Service is one of our key values in our pacific culture. We use the Pasifika Learning Centre as a vehicle for us to serve, empower & educate our Pasifika Families whether it’s through homework centre, cultural cooking and arts. PLC also covers a holistic approach which includes education for our parents to understand the education system in NZ, transition periods from primary – intermediate – NCEA high school and uni/employment/opportunities.
Parents & families will also be participating in various workshops such as financial literacy, cultural awareness, safe families, positive parenting, small businesses, healthy cooking and so much more! One of our popular projects is the Umu Project that educated young people about an above-ground oven of hot volcanic stones with food placed on top wrapped in banana leaves and our Pasifika Assemblies organised by our Pacific Young Leadership team.
